GTA VI Release Date: Everything Confirmed Before the November 19 Launch

GTA VI
Let’s get the answer out of the way, because it’s the reason you’re here: GTA VI comes out on November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S, and pre-orders are live right now.Simple sentence. Took Rockstar three years and two delays to be able to write it.

And now that the date exists, a whole pile of other things have fallen into place around it — prices, a preload window, a 34-track album, even a half-accidental hint about multiplayer from someone who probably wasn’t supposed to give one. So rather than making you read six different articles, here’s the whole picture, with a clear line drawn between what Rockstar has actually said and what’s still just noise.

First, the date — and why this one should stick

The original trailer back in December 2023 promised a vague “2025.” That didn’t happen. Then came a real date, May 26, 2026, and that didn’t happen either — Rockstar pushed it again, landing on November 19 and saying the extra months were about hitting the polish level people expect from them.

Twice burned, you’d be right to ask: will this date hold? Probably, yes. And not because Rockstar says so. The better tell is what everyone else did — when the November date went public, other publishers basically evacuated the month rather than launch anything against it. Companies don’t reshuffle their own release calendars around a date they expect to slip.

One thing to put in your phone now: if you buy digitally, preloading opens at local midnight on November 12, a week early. This game is going to be enormous. Start the download early.

What it costs, and the disc thing nobody loves

Two editions. That’s it — no five-tier collector’s ladder, no statue in a box.

Edition US Price What’s in it
Standard $79.99 The full game
Ultimate $99.99 The game plus extra vehicles, weapons, apparel and story-linked content

Pre-order either one and you get the Vintage Vice City Pack thrown in; go digital and you also get a month of GTA+.

Now the part that annoys collectors, and fair enough: the “physical” edition is a code in a box. No disc. You get retail packaging with a download code inside. If you were counting on a boxed copy you could lend out or resell, that door is closed for this one.

As for PC — nothing. No announcement, no date, no system requirements. Every “GTA 6 PC specs” article you’ve seen is guesswork. Same goes for PS4 and Xbox One: not happening.

The downgrade panic, revisited

For two years the recurring fan anxiety went something like: that 2023 trailer is too pretty, they’ll never ship it looking like that. Reasonable fear. We’ve all been burned by trailers before.

Then came the Extended Look on August 27 — about half an hour of footage captured entirely in-game on a PS5, showing Jason, Lucia, Vice City and the wider state of Leonida. And the thing everyone zoomed in on, that absurdly packed beach crowd from the first trailer? Still there. Rockstar says every NPC is individually art-directed, backed by more than 600,000 animations.

The systems got deeper too, not shallower. Cops now respond based on witnesses, security cameras, search zones and vehicle trackers — commit a crime with nobody watching and the response plays out differently. The driving has been rebuilt. Cars have fuel now, gas stations actually work, different businesses handle different upgrades. Even Jason and Lucia’s relationship bends to how you play — optional activities push the partnership toward romantic or keep it more platonic.

Could something still get cut before launch? Sure, it’s software. But at this point the evidence runs opposite to the downgrade theory.

The album is real, and it ships on vinyl (the game doesn’t — sit with that)

September 17, Rockstar and Atlantic Records announced Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album — 34 original songs, releasing the same day as the game, with the first six streaming now.

The opening batch gives you a sense of how strange and wide the roster is: Yung Lean with Future and Metro Boomin on one track, Travis Scott produced by Daft Punk’s Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo on another, plus a collaboration stacking CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso, PinkPantheress, Fred again.. and Etienne de Crécy. Keith Richards is on this album. So is Morgan Wallen. That is not a normal tracklist.

Physical pre-orders are open: the CD runs $19.98, standard vinyl is $49.98 on two transparent magenta discs with blue splatter, and a $124.98 limited edition fills those magenta discs with blue liquid and adds exclusive artwork. Yes — the soundtrack gets a physical release and the actual game is a download code. Somebody at Rockstar has a sense of humor.

Worth knowing: this album isn’t the whole musical picture. Rockstar says details on the dynamic score and the next version of in-game radio are still coming.

So… when’s multiplayer?

Officially? Nobody knows, because Rockstar hasn’t announced an online mode at all. Their public line is short and careful: GTA VI is a singleplayer title and is due to release this November. We will continue to support GTA Online after GTA VI release and beyond.

Unofficially, we just got the most interesting slip of the year. Twitch CEO Dan Clancy, talking to Bloomberg at Tokyo Game Show, said this: We spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans… You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer.

Next year. 2027. Said flatly, like a known fact, by a man whose company has been meeting with Rockstar about exactly this.

Now — Clancy doesn’t speak for Rockstar, and “next year” isn’t a date. Treat it as a well-sourced expectation, nothing more. But it fits the pattern: launch the single-player, let it breathe, bring the online mode later, the way GTA Online followed GTA V by weeks and then swallowed the next decade.

Where that leaves you

If you’re buying at launch, your only real decisions are Standard vs. Ultimate and digital vs. code-in-a-box. The date is set, the preload date is set, the prices are set.

Everything else — PC, the other 28 songs on the album, whatever GTA 6’s online mode turns out to be — is a waiting game. Given how November is shaping up, the wait won’t be boring.
